At the age of 19, Jim Fuda was drafted into the United States Army on January 16, 1972, and attended Basic Training at Ft. Campbell, Ky. He then went on to attend Military Police School and Confinement Specialist School at Ft. Gordon, Ga. Upon graduating, Jim was assigned as a “permanent party” to Ft. Polk, La., where he worked at the Stockade.

In the summer of 1973, Jim was able to secure a transfer to Ft. Lewis, Wash., where he worked as a Military Police Officer responding to calls for service until his discharge on October 19, 1973. During his tenure at Ft. Lewis, Jim was able to apply and pass all tests for the King County Sheriff’s Office. When the agency hired Jim on October 24, 1973, he was just 21 years old and was the youngest Sheriff’s Deputy ever hired by the agency, launching a 33-year career.
